Baking Soda Shampoo and Vinegar Hair Rinse Recipes

What is the ratio of baking soda to vinegar? Do you end up smelling like vinegar? What kind of vinegar is best to use?

Good questions. I've been meaning to put up those pages and your questions gave me the shove I needed.

Here are the recipes for baking soda shampoo and a vinegar hair rinse.

It depends on whether you have hard water or soft. Those with soft water will have an easier time making the switch to an all natural hair care routine.

That's not to say you shouldn't try if you have hard water.

My water is incredibly hard. It took a little bit of experimenting, but I finally figured out what worked.

No need to struggle with greasy hair like I did. Follow the recipes above for good, general guidelines on where to start.

You'll need to do a little tweaking depending on how long your hair is, how damaged it is, the current shampoo you are using, and whether it is curly or straight.

But once you get the hang of it, you'll have beautiful, silky smooth hair without all the nasty ingredients found in almost all commercial shampoos (see safe cosmetics for more info).

The type of vinegar isn't important. I use plain old distilled water. Apple cider vinegar is fine too, but it's more expensive.

On second thought - don't use the organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar (with the "Mother"). It's way too pricey for this purpose, plus you don't want those strands of bacteria (beneficial or not) in your hair!

And no worries about the vinegar smell. It goes away when the hair is dry.
